Would I be able to manage a Beethoven bagatelle?
on: July 24, 2012, 08:13:48 PM
I'm currently working on the first two movements of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata... the third is a very long-term goal, I can play the first page at almost full speed (except for the last two sets of ascending arpeggios in the right hand which are quite tricky!).  I'm also bouncing back and forth between two Scarlatti sonatas (apologies, I can't recall the catalogue numbers exactly at this moment) and a couple of Chopin nocturnes, which brings my total to 3 nocturnes and 2 or 3 waltzes by Chopin.  Oh, and I was working on the first movement of Beethoven's Pathetique sonata for a while - haven't touched it in a while, but I got through over half of it with a few months of practice and made extraordinary progress in my playing thanks to that piece alone.

I am able to play Fur Elise quite well and have no troubles with that one.  I have never heard anything about the other bagatelles, however.  Would you advise I check them out?  I have absolutely no idea what (approximate) difficulty level they are.

hmm try taking a look at the Op 33 set. I posted in the other beethoven thread on just a bit down about no 2 the 'scherzo' which i love. this one is probably even less challenging technically but bringout some humor  and charm is the reall challenge here.

this is about as good as i have ever heard it.

i posted the score under the impression that this is not available for DL on pianostreet. if im mistaken pls let me know it will be promptly removed.

you should seek out a published verison this 'realized' modern PDF is should just be a guide to follow along w the recording. you'll want something like a good urtext or something similar for study.

Yes, certainly you should look into it.
I think there are three "sets" and the most of them are little gem-like pieces!  I like op.119 no.1 in G minor which is around Fur Elise level technically.  Middle section, which is in Eb major is gorgeous, and then the return of G minor section with "haemiola" feel quavers...
