My concert
on: October 07, 2004, 11:15:29 AM
I'm going to have a concert in my school in December. Here are the pieces that i have chosen, what do you guys think about them/ Any suggestions?

1st half:

Bach- Busconi- Tocatta, Adagio and fugue in Cmajor, BWV 564

Beethoven sonata Op.90 in Eminor

Schubert impromptu no.1 D.90 in Cminor

2nd Half:

Beethoven Sonata Op.109 or Schubert sonata D.960

Schubert Wanderer Fantasy

Encore:

Beethoven Bagatelles Op.126 no.2,4

Personally, I like the Bach-Busoni and Schubert Impromptu, but I wouldn't recommend doing the two Beethoven sonatas like that---or, for that matter, the Schubert 960. I would consider dropping the Op. 90, playing the op. 109 in its spot, and then finding some later Romantic or 20th Century pieces to play in the beginning of the second half before the Wanderer Fantasy. Of course, if you wanted to remain a little more in the "earlier" times, you could also look into a Mozart or Haydn sonata.
What else is in your repertoire? Or, what else are you interested in playing that you could learn by December?

I think when choosing a program that you want people to come to, you have to decide on a program that is unique.  The Bach-Busoni is definitely a good piece to start with.  Those 2 Beethoven sonatas in particular aren't contrasting enough to put on the same program for me;I'd play op.109.  I'd leave the Impromptu out.  You should try putting some later romantic or contemporary work on the program for contrast.

I don't believe it's necessary to have vastly contrasting works. The program is well-balanced enough. You have Classical and Baroque in the first half, and the second half features Schubert (I would go with the Schubert Sonata). I suggest you simply eliminate the Impromptu altogether (although it's a lovely piece, it just doesn't fit very well).

So...

1
Bach-Busoni
Beethoven Op. 90
2
Schubert Sonata
Schubert Fantasy
Encore!  :)

Good luck!

Thanks for the answer guys. Let me first clear this, I don't want to add any romantic (except Schubert, Schumann and Brahms) in my programme. So here is what i do for now:

1) Bach- Busconi
   Beethoven sonata Op.109

2) Schubert sonata D.960
   Schubert Wanderer Fantasy

Encores:

How about putting the impromptu in the encore?

The Impromptu would be a fine encore. However, don't count on playing any encores at all - they aren't part of the program, and if the audience is tired, or if you're tired, it's probably better to end with the Wanderer and leave it at that.

I'm 16. Yeah, I'm gonna play the whole Schubert. The concert is going to be long, but it's gonna be good.
