Bach's Chaconne in D minor ... violin version ONLY *listens*  ;D :'( -- geez, I on some level am seriously contemplating actually learning how to play the violin, just so I can play that piece  :P (that's real).

Rachmaninov/Corelli Variations

Samuel Feinberg's sonata no. 6, though I might be OK just listening (and not playing) to that one as already recorded ...

Well, pretty much everything by Chopin, Alkan, and Bach.

That's an item on my bucket list that will never be checked off.

Schubert D960 sonata in B flat. You can keep your Hungarian Rhapsodies, Fantasie-Impromptus, Campanellas. This is the real deal.

Second, Beethoven's Waldstein sonata.

Musically, these are the pieces I die for.

Chopin Ballades. The four of them, the day I master them, will be the day I'll be able to call myself a pianist.

and Bach.

Did I turn you into a convert with the inventions?

I presume you've listened to the WTC? - if not I rather suspect you will like both the D minor preludes. I certainly do.

---------

my first real experience relating to the OP was moonlight 3rd mov, - now its just pretty much everything.

Yes, you certainly did. I was actually quite familiar with Bach before, as I was kinda forced to play a bunch of his violin works in the school orchestra when I was 9. I didn't see the light in his piano works until a couple weeks ago.

You + Gould = formula for Bach conversion :P

I have listened to the WTC a bit these past days, and have taken a liking to quite a few pieces- especially the BWV 847 Prelude and Fugue in Cm.

Pretty much everything? Um, no, not for me. A whole heap of stuff, sure - that's a list waaaaay to long to post, and one that is constantly growing.

But! There's also a whole heap of stuff that I'd quite cheerfully never play again - also a long and growing list.

amonst the very long list of varied works from standard and classics to moderns and my dear final fantasy and similar pieces, i'd also want to learn the piano II reductions to the concertos on my list. then record myself playing them and then accompany myself as i play/perform the piano i/solo parts.

Chopin Etude No 3 op 10 no matter how much know this is, it is still one of the most touching musics I've heard. Fantaisie-Impromptu, well lots of Chopin. ;D

Rach's prelude in D Major, G minor, and may be a few others.. Also some of Debussy ones.

Well, those are the ones I remember, I can usually connect with those romantic pieces.

Pretty much everything? Um, no, not for me.

I have certain music that i dislike, but I usually learn to like it, or like it as soon as I play it rather than listen to it - plus I have to be accepting these days...

..Last weekend I started a 5 yr old student. His favorite music is dub-step.

Don't lose hope, he is still young. Perhaps you can guide him back on the right track.

Maybe a renaissance is coming?  Classical music is become less popular and now everyone likes dubstep.

That's what my teacher told me the other day.

Well, the same thing was said when rock, heavy metal, pop, techno, etc appeared and yet here it is. Classical will never die.

(and probably reason why people should be grateful I don't)

Reasons I don't teach No 37:

Further.

said 5 year old, with near ZERO pianistic experience described the sound of dub-step (not how i hear though :P) in great detail. AND, actually played - given a moment to experiment - pretty much precisely what he had in his head. With consideration to both rhythm, and pitch and dynamics.

His aural image was brilliant. I queried him, "what about these notes?" ..  "No, its lower, and not that loud"...  he practically walked in and composed, with musical thought, on day 1.

teaching is awesome.

I still don't like dub-step, but I'm definitely keen to make some more of it tomorrow.

There are a ton of pieces I'd love to learn, but that are just too difficult for me at the moment, ones that I think I would just get frustrated trying to learn, and learn to hate. However, I've got a list going of pieces that are within my capabilities that I just haven't gotten around to learning...

In no particular order:
Scriabin - Sonata No. 2
Scriabin - Vers la flamme
Prokofiev - all of Sonata 7 (currently working on just the third movement)
Dvorak - At an Old Castle
Liszt - Consolation No. 3
Liszt - Die Zelle in Nonnenwerth
Brahms - Scherzo, Op. 4
Mompou - Impresiones intimas
Ornstein - Waltz No. 7
Rachmaninoff - Vocalise, Richardson version
Sibelius - Romance, Op. 24/9
Mendelssohn - Liede ohne Worte Op. 30/1
The Door from Sailing to the World
Musique pour la Tristesse de Xion from the Kingdom Hearts piano collection 49410enrique showed in the musical purchases thread
Grieg - quite a few lyric pieces
Rachmaninoff - Nocturne No. 1 in F-sharp minor
Rachmaninoff - Preludes Op. 23/2, 23/4, 23/7, 23/10, 32/5, 32/10, 32/12, 32/13

And for ones that are either too long or difficult for me to devote the time to in the near future...

Rachmaninoff - several etudes-tableaux...actually, basically all of them
Ornstein - Sonata no. 4
Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition
Hindemith - Sonata no. 2
Chopin - Sonata no. 2
Prokofiev etude op. 2/1
Vine - Sonata No. 1
Rachmaninoff - Concertos 1 (first movement), and then all of 2 and 3
Prokofiev - Concerto 2
Prokofiev - Sonatas 6 & 8
Liszt - Sonata
Schumann - Kreisleriana
Brahms - Concerto 2
Brahms - Sonata no. 3

There's a lot more, but nothing comes to mind at the moment. It's a shame I only have the rest of my life to learn all this!

I'll add on to my list.

Everything by Carl Vine!!!

He's sooooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking good!

Especially his 2nd piano sonata!!!!!

Too bad his 3rd piano sonata and second piano concerto hasn't been recorded yet...

Beethoven sonata no 21 (Waldstein). I just love that piece so much! I have listened to it multiple times every day for over a year now  ;D
I learnt Chopin etude op 25 no 7 because of my love to it. (My piano teacher was really excited that I learnt it on my own)
Another piece I am recently learning because I love it, is Chopin's first ballade. (Neither of my piano teachers know that yet, hehe)
These three pieces is the ones I feel a deep connection to.
