HELP! in identifying this piece
on: August 14, 2012, 04:52:44 PM
hello guys,
i need your help in identifying this piece. It seems to be in the style of Scarlatti's sonatas, or Soler.
Key is G minor, very calm but not too slow.
i've used a software to type out the opening bar, and also a phrase from the middle.
Hope its enough to help identify the piece!!
Thanks!!

It is not Soler's. I also do not think that it is Scarlatti; I'm very familiar with Scarlatti's Sonatas, even most of the obscure ones. But it's possible. Where, exactly, did you get like, just the first bar of a piece, and then a random passage from the middle of it? Like, are you transcribing this by ear, or do you have unmarked sheet music? Is "Andante-Moderato-Lento" actually part of the score? If so, it is 100% not Scarlatti, and like I said, it is not Soler.

thanks for replying..
i heard it on the radio in the car, and could only transcribe bits of it by ear...
I have no idea what the tempo marking is, but i just included 3 possible ones, namely andante, moderato and lento.
the piece is played quite leisurely, bordering on the slow side. quite calm and gentle.
I wonder if it's possible that it's written by a romantic period composer imitating the baroque style.

Perhaps it is Clementi, Handel, PL Daquin, Couperin or CPE Bach. It is not Rameau, Schobert, Telemann, Haydn, Mozart or Mondonville. I'm not at all familiar with Purcell's keyboard output. You could also try Balbastre.
