agood book for tuning a piano
on: October 09, 2004, 05:00:19 PM
Hi,
What book will help me tune my piano by myself(a standing piano) and a book to repair some parts of piano .

I want a book that will be simple to understand, practical and it would be good if it has pictures.

thanks

Tuning is very straightforward.  It's mostly a do activity.  And a tuning book is often very short, maybe a few pages long.  It's because there are things that cannot be expressed in words, you just have to do it to understand.  Knowing when a unison is perfect is a skill you develop.  You can't read it and understand.

Any book will do.  But here is an abstract of the tuning process:
1.  tightening strings raise the pitch.
2.  loosening strings lower the pitch.
3.  a unison is in tune when you hear only one pitch.
4.  an octave is in tune when you hear an equal pitch (no beats).
5.  intervals are in tune (tempered) when... you hear the beats...
