RE-learning a bad habited piece
on: August 21, 2012, 03:52:45 PM
So... I learned the first movement of Clementi Sonatina no. 1 of op.36, and it turns out that it is very bad because i mess up a lot. Could I relearn it so that it sounds better. I really want it to!
Working on:
Bach Invention 7 (also Tureck's book)
Clementi Sonatina 3
Rachmaninoff Moment Musicaux no. 3
Skrjabin Prelude op.11 no.4
Joplin The Favorite Rag

Of course you can. Sometimes it's best to stay away from it for a while to forget most of the habits.

But what exactly is wrong with it? Mistakes? Just practice the difficult parts slowly and they will eventually go away. What edition do you have? I have Schirmer and we changed the fingerings quite a bit.

For me the first movement was the most difficult because I couldn't memorize it before it got too boring. Maybe go to the 2nd and 3rd first and then come back to this.

BTW. I think this thread belongs to the student's corner

You need to let it go for a while. I have a lot of experience with this situation unfortunately. You need to get more pieces in your fingers and then you can go back with hopefully better technique and experience, and it might look a totally different piece to your bad habits.
