on: August 29, 2012, 08:38:40 AM
Hello for everyone!
I'm searching for good jazz Piano + Bass transcription books.
All i found is:
- Bill Evans Trio - (4 books)
- Ahmad Jamal Collection
Can anybody specify the others. Thanks!

I've only ever seen one of the Bill Evans books. Amazing to see Waltz for Debbie written down.
Why do you want to do this? Tribute band? Is it realistic to expect a bass player and drummer to read transcription books?! Are you interested in how famous jazz pianists play the head, or how they improvise during the solo choruses?
Personally, I struggle to find ideas for different textures for the head when I'm playing with a bass player and a drummer. You can play the tune in the RH, or play it octaves, or you can use both hands to do a George Shearing 'drop chords' effect but that's about it. Really good creative jazz pianists often come up with lots of other ideas for textures, and it would be nice to notate some of these.
At the end of the day, we should really be prepared to transcribe the music ourselves, but you have to be super-dedicated to do this. I admit to not ever doing this myself!

I really need only Piano and Bass stuff.
I use Bass staff to make MIDI file with the book then play along the Bass on my synthesizer (my level is beginner and i need more time for teaching and practicing tunes) then play with real bassist the same tune. Drums is computer drum machine.
