Piano Competition for non professional adults
on: October 12, 2004, 12:22:06 AM
Hi all,

I am just wondering if there is a piano competition for non professional? I know there is Amature Competition at Van Cliburn. However, it seems that most of the competitors are professionally trained musicians who cannot make to the real music world so that they do something else for a living, yet still compete in this amature category.

I would like to know if there is or are piano clubs for adults who like to compete.

;D

Pianodude, Boston Piano Amateurs is an impressive one that I am familiar with (www.bostonpianoamateurs.org).  They're a big club that holds master classes, literature discussions, informal recitals, and formal competitions.  How fun!  Their repertoire (listed on one of their competiton links) is extremely impressive.  Very talented group.  I would hope that every city would have a group like this, and it's just a matter of "discovering" them.  Perhaps call around to piano stores in your area and the music departments of your local colleges/universities.

Uh, no. Most of them are people who have had very good training, and have been dedicated, but have decided to persue something else as an avocation. Lots of them could have made it as professionals if that's what they wanted.

As far as amateur competitions, there are lots of them around.
