Baldwin M Artist Model (70's) opinions and pricing
on: October 12, 2004, 06:52:18 PM
Thanks for the posts and suggestions in helping select a small grand for my 12 yo daughter below.  After much research and shopping, my daughter has narrowed her choice to the Baldwin M Artist series.  I wanted to thank this forum for your input and suggestions.  We started with a modest budget, but soon realized after she played the budget pianos, it would not do to limit her talent with a lesser quality piano, and  a used Baldwin M would be well worth the investment, even though we will be stretching quite a bit (2- 3 times the amount we expected to spend).  The one we have in mind is a early 70's ebony model and we read on another forum that there were production problems with the Baldwin production at that time. It seems there was a very disparate price range for this model on another forum-from 5-14,000m (usd) for used Artist's models. The piano is being sold by our tuner to us, so he is very confident of its quality and condition, but we thought we might check into this and pricing for the age of this particular period piano while we have time before finalizing the sale.  Also is the first tuning and assistance in setting up the piano typically included with the purchase?  Stores have all indicated this, but I don't know what the practice might be when an individual/tuner is involved.  I am so relieved we are close to getting a new(used) piano for our daughter.  It's tough making these decisions when one doesn't play.  If it had been my first daughter's choice it would definitely have been a Steinway M a beauty with exquisite Italianate rosewood carvings on the case!   Enough to buy a new car...dream on! Regards, Lani
