The nails thread...
on: September 13, 2012, 07:14:09 PM
I've studied piano for about 8 years and (classical) guitar for about 3 now, and, needless to say, I've never been totally comfortable playing piano with nails. The problem is that I'm totally uncomfortable playing guitar with fake nails; the tone produced isn't the same, and it's difficult to play fast passages when the whole tip of the finger is striking the string, as opposed to just the nail. Is there some secret trick that I'm not aware of to playing piano with nails, or am I just going to have to break down and buy a set of those fake guitar nails that you put on when you play and take off immediately afterward?

I just don't get it how anyone can play piano with nails. I have never had long nails, but after I started on the piano I have had to shorten them at least one a week. They seem to grow much faster these days  >:(

I think it also depends on the shape of one's fingers. Mine have to be really short.

I guess if one plays with very flat fingers the nails can be long...
