Repeated notes/tremolos on a Yamaha T118 PE Upright
on: September 23, 2012, 06:46:08 PM
The rebound action seems to be too slow to handle quick repeated notes/tremolos on this certain model.

Can anyone "confirm" if it's just me or it's actually just the piano?

It would be a shame if it was the piano. So many pieces that I won't be able to play on it..

I would guess that it is most likely a regulation problem.
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

The piano is pretty new, I got it about 4 months ago.

Maybe the fish tank next to it is causing this problem.

Doubt it, if it's the fish tank it must be a heck of a fish tank in an enclosed area.. It's probably just played in. I'm not really up on upright regulation but if it was a grand doing this it would be my first thought.

No. However, you could go play a few different pianos in a showroom to test - and, see if you can find a decent pianist or technician to have a look at yours.

Not to be a hard-ass but you're a relatively inexperienced pianist (despite your rapid development which is highly commendable) - Fast repeated notes and tremolos are hardly easy, and your ability to play through chopin 10/12 and 25/12 for example, which are both diploma pieces here in Australia, does not mean you are going to be allround ready to tackle all the difficulties found in high level music.

I'm not ruling out the piano, but you probably do need more practice and experience across a broad range of music.

An experienced carpenter will produce decent furniture even with a poor selection of blunt tools.

If you're having high humidity, the felt bushing around the flange pins tend to swell up, new or not. If so, a carefully monitored dehumidifier would help. Have your tech check it for you.
