Hi!! What about a chat progam on the site?Maybe someone already mentioned it. I know it is a piano forum it is all  about the posting but I thought it would be kind of cool to get more "intimate" adivce .Especially for desperate noobs like myself. Maybe a couple sr. members or an administrator could be the leader and it can be opened whenever that person is on. I really like how you can see members who are online at the bottom and not many are on at once so it wouldn't get that crowded! Im just mentioning it please dont hate me because I'm a newbie lol   ???  o and if you do get cool new smileys or something can we have ANIMAL FACES so cute !

Thanks for your notification observations Bob and Bernhard!

I have been looking into this problem (just briefly yet), but don't see any obvious error.

Is it possible the problem of the notification is this...

If you don't access the pf site through the notification email, the site thinks you haven't checked the page and doesn't send anymore notifications unless you would use the email access?

So, if I go through the pf site myself and read the thread, the pf site doesn't think I looked at the changed thread because I didn't use the email notification.

Yes, you may have a point here. The notifications work slightly different from the previous forum software (YaBB) and the new conditions are:

  • If subscribing to notifications of an entire board you only get notifications when a new topic is created.
  • When subscribing to notifications of a specific topic you will only be notified of the first new unread post. This means you must be logged in and read the topic (so that the "New" icone at the topic disappears) in order to receive further notifications. (Read from email link makes no difference if not logged in.)

Could this be the reason you are not receiving the notifications you expect?

Also, is anyone having problems staying logged in forever?
There could be a problem with the new Windows XP Service Pack 2 that requires the site to have a valid privacy policy set up according to some standard rules (we don't have it yet) to be able to use cookies correctly. If that is the case and you are consistently logged out when closing the browser, that might be the reason the forum does not register when you read those new posts you were notified about. Simply beacause you are not logged in.  (Hmm...was that understandable at all? :-\)

As in case this was not the "problem" and there still is a real problem I have also changed an forum email setting that might solve it to see if it makes any difference. Give it a day or two and see if you start to recieve more notifications.

Please leave your comments about my above theory or if you see any difference after my email setting change.

Did you hit the post button twice?
Do you get this message when you are posting or on some other occasion?

Nils,

>Did you hit the post button twice?

No, definitely not. It was the first post for the day as well

>Do you get this message when you are posting or on some other occasion?

Yes, it has happened before.

I am getting far more notifications now. I think that I have to access the email notifications while logged. Otherwise, they somehow do not register and I am not sent any subsequent notifications (does that make sense?- I think that is what you are talking about). Anyway, this seems to have solved the problem.

Best wishes,
Bernhard.
