Urgent question about the 'Notenbuch der Anna Magdalena Bach'
on: September 28, 2012, 06:06:42 AM
Hey,
Was the chorale 'Gib dich zufrieden und sei stille' BWV 512 in E minor truly written by J.S. Bach? I'm planning on writing some piano solo variations on a theme by him and I just want to make sure it
really
is one of his works and not one of those that many believe to be by him just to find out that they're really not (like the G major Minuet :B
Cheers!

Really?
Or any idea where I could check that? I know there's the listing of his works in Wikipedia but it says that the BWV 510 is possibly spurious and since the 511 and 512 are basically the same choral (Gib dich zufrieden und sei stille), I'm still wondering whether those are genuine Bach compositions or not.
So...any help?
Thx,

Did Bach actually compose any chorales? I've always assumed they were popular pre-existing hymn tunes.
edit: after a short search:

Cheers for that. Well, I guess I'll go for a movement of one of his Suites, then
