It makes sense now; when I tried playing the upper E in combination with the rehit lower E it sounded really odd. It simplifies the piece now.I don't use a metronome btw. Not sure if I will ever need to either. Many thanks!
Metronomes are good for setting a suggested tempo. IMO, that doesn't mean there is a law stating that you need to play at that tempo ! I don't know where my metronome is, I own/owned one but I have no clue where it might be hiding after all these years. When I had it out next to my piano many years ago I rarely used it and then I settled into never using it. I call my wife the bag lady because she has a way of scooping unused items and putting them all together in bags and stashing them, who knows where, but often that's the last time you ever see a given item ! I suspect my metronome was subjected to this fate and is now either stashed in the attic or has long since gone through the recycle center and is part of a Chevrolet or Ford grill or dash board and perhaps even recycled a second time by now..
Maybe God planned for you not to use a metronome. What your wife does is very kind of her. Maybe one day I'll meet a pretty lady with the same attribute, maybe then I wouldn't have this old cilinder of coffee in my room I never use.
