Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No.2
on: November 06, 2012, 07:18:44 PM
I'm not sure if i'm posting the link correctly, and my recording device isn't too good, but I'm intending to play this for my LTCL.. Any comments?? Some of my peers tell me that it is too slow... had only one lesson with my teacher on this so don't be too harsh please!

Wow, this is really great! I have only listened to the second part so far (is it the friska?), so I can only comment on that, but overall I thought it was fast enough. Meaning, I've heard faster (and much faster), but your rendition was lively and interesting throughout. Except for one spot, when the right hand starts playing octaves with a note in between and the LH has all of those jumps . . . sorry I don't have a score, so I hope you know what part I mean. Before that, the piece builds and gets thicker, and then it should break out into those octaves and be more bold and exciting. That's the only part I wanted to be faster. I was pleasantly surprised at the section just after it when things lighten up and get playful and staccato - that was done very well.
I love the sound of your piano - what kind is it?
Anyway, I've never been able to play this all the way through, and I'm sure others here can give you more technical feedback for your recital and specific comments about details in the score. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed listening. To me, the notes sounded clear, even, and controlled. The articulation of each note and the pedalling seemed just right to me. Great job!

Thanks for your encouragement! Are you talking about 08:20? That part is quite challenging to execute... I'm still trying to get those under the fingers...
I'm using a Steinway A
I realised that I haven't really been following the score quite closely though... but I suppose that all these will gradually be ironed out when I'm more familiar with the piece
