I want some blues piano sheet
on: November 21, 2012, 03:35:30 PM
I want to learn some blues piano, and don't know where to start looking. Do you know any sheets or books ( but not books like "learn to play blues").

So far I've learned rhytm patterns and some licks, but I don't know what to continue to play.
If anyone have some advice it would be nice.

Learn the 12 bar blues if you haven't already (I'm assuming you have it!).  Look for variants on this, there are a bunch.  Listen to lots of Blues, and look for the lead sheets or chord charts for them (a lot of these are accessible online).  I've been starting to look at some blues and jazz for fun over the past year, and just like someone looking at a piece of classical music for the first time, it's really hard to process what it is supposed to sound like from just the chord chart.

I don't think there will be a lot of people on this forum who will be able to help out (what I said is already really limited), but I'm sure there are some forum members who are blues geniuses!  Show yourselves!

Tnx for help, I'm also guitar player so I know 12bar blues. I think I will start with licks and some variations on that progress.

Many years ago I heard Oscar Peterson play "Easy Listening Blues" by Nat King Cole. Sublime! However I have never been able to find the sheet music for this ( or indeed of any Nat King Cole piano music )  :(but if you could I believe it would fit the bill perfectly.

Good luck in your endeavor for blues piano music! I love the blues, and I think it would be a lot of fun to play piano in the blues style. I've no real natural musical ability, so that will have to wait until I get a teacher I think.
