Here are some suggestions:

Do you consider the Impressionists to be "modern"? If so, then Debussy's Images Book 1 or 2 might be a good choice. Anything from Ravel's Miroirs is also good. I like Une Barque Sur l'Ocean and Noctuelles, but Alborada del Gracioso is more virtuosic.

Debussy's Etudes are also good for your extra etude for Juilliard. I can't help you much more, I'm sorry.

Try looking at some Carl Vine or John cage for contemporary. 

As for the etude, I would suggest another Chopin one.

And for a collection of shorter works...  I would do Carl Vines five Bagatelles.

Then just choose from your favorite composer from the list and play one of those.
