Long travel/away from the piano help
on: November 27, 2012, 01:29:54 AM
Hey guys! I am going to Russia, leaving early December. The plane trip will be a max of 12 hours(9 from New york to Moscow) And then the train will be 29 hours. When I get back I am not sure if it will be morning or night yet, but am assuming if it is night I will not be able to get to the piano arranged for me until the next day. So 3 days there before I get to get to a piano. Then 3 days back again, and when I get back I will have an audition in 15 days.(I will be there almost a month) I am not too worried right now because every time I slip on memory I end up going back and learning something again, and it feels like I am eliminating possible ways of forgetting! But while I am on this trip, I need to know how I can keep my hands extremely nimble. I am scared all the muscle I have built in my forearms and muscles will need a hell of a work out when I get to a piano finally. Please forward any information and media you can. Any pdfs will be greatly appreciated. I will study scores non stop but I need my hands to be ready. I will be assigned to a piano space at a conservatory in my grandmas town. I will have lessons as well. Thank you so much!

Your hands and muscles will be fine.

If you want to do something to improve the piece, play it in your head along the way. Visualise both the movements (without moving your hands to try to do them) and, equally importantly, visualise the sound you want to produce.

Ok sounds good! Thanks for checking out the post! I actually may benefit a lot from having to visualize all the movements because some pieces are missing just that!
