Oh... My... God...
on: November 27, 2012, 05:33:04 AM
Looks like Scriabin has a rival!!!

You know some of those notes aren't actually played by the strings, it's just an after effect, or whatever it's called.

Truly horrifying stuff.

I was listening to this alone in the dark in my parents room (I sleep in my parents bedroom) where a girl died in the closet a couple years before my parents moved there.  I had to cover myself with my blanket.

Truly horrifying stuff.

Quite. But I think you meant it as a compliment.

Incidentally, how does an avowed atheist have a God?

It's an expression.

And when people talk about theism and atheism, I think it's important that we establish a definition of a god before we move along so that we're on the same page.

It's always fun to listen to two atheists arguing about the one true god they insist doesn't exist.

O3 god? omnibeneveleant, omnipresent, omnipotent. If he were not able to perform miracles, then he would not be omnipotent. If there was pointless evil, he would not be omnibeneveleant(atheism)...That is the only god I know and believe in. I am not offended that you do not believe, but in philosophy they say that by believing in god, you have nothing to lose if he does not exist. If you do not believe-there is more to lose, if doctrines are true because if he does exist and you were wrong...Also learned about life after death. Do you ever think about life after death? I really hope I get to see my great grandmother after I pass on. I really hope she still exists after death.

...that is insulting to many people who actually do believe in a god.

According to most religions there is a special place full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and anguish, where he will send me to live, and suffer, and burn, and choke, and scream, and cry, forever and ever until the end of time.

So by definition they insult me by default.

Besides, I still don't see how that's offensive!  For instance, black people get mad when white people say the "N" word...

You freaking address each other by that name all the freaking time!!!

This is what I think.  Either everybody can say it, or nobody can say it.

That's a belief. True or not, it's "I think this is what will happen to you[, although I wish it weren't the case]" rather than "I want you go to hell." That's comparable to saying you insult Christians by not believing in God.

Besides, I still don't see how that's offensive!

It's making light of God, something that religious people place in high regard.

You freaking address each other by that name all the freaking time!!!

Gross generalization

This is what I think.  Either everybody can say it, or nobody can say it.

I would agree with this, although I know many people who would disagree, saying that only blacks have had to deal with the full negative connotations of the word so only they have the right to use the word freely.

Something to keep in mind, in regards to white people saying "***", is that they do it out of reverence for "black culture" (as defined by rap and hip-hop, mostly), not intending to be offensive. It's something they want to be a part of. That doesn't necessarily change whether it is okay to say it or not, but at least know that when young white people say "***", they don't mean it in a racist way.

First response:  If you think that I'm going to be tortured forever just because we don't share the same belief's, then I don't respect you, or your religion.  Reeks of arrogance.

If you're interested in an actual explanation of at least the Christian belief (that has sadly been oversimplified to the point of becoming the both misleading and incorrect "good people go to heaven, bad people go to hell" that it is--one that, in this form, goes completely against the rest of the teachings of the religion), I would be more than happy to explain. But presumably, like most vocal atheists, you just don't like religion and would be happy to vilify it based on a very limited understanding you possess (that is, unfortunately, also shared by a majority of religious people).

You're allowed to say *** and they won't censor it?!  I didn't know that.

Apparently. I wonder if they censor the "-er" version, although admittedly, that one is significantly more offensive.

Either way, the whole concept of eternal punishment is just evil.  I mean, I can't think of ANYONE who would deserve eternal torture!

Not even Hitler!  I mean, sure maybe like 100 years or something, but after a certain point in time, ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

And that is true, I don't like religion.  However, being religious and just believing in god are two different things.  Apparently accidentally I brought up religion instead of actual god, which derailed the conversation. :-[

Hell is not eternal "punishment", in the sense of torture. What hell is is eternal separation from God and heaven. The "torture" is that you could have had heaven, eternal happiness and oneness with God, but instead are stuck eternally without it. And it is not intended to be a punishment. Again, I can go into more detail if you like, but calling hell a punishment would be comparable to saying that by not working a 9-5 job, you are being punished by not getting paid--obviously not true; by default, you are not paid, although you are given an opportunity to get paid, you just ignored it.

And that is true, I don't like religion.

I'm not a big fan of religion (in the sense of the establishment...probably better to say I'm not a fan of the Church), but not because it's religion, just because it suffers from the same flaws as all human institutions.

My former piano teacher lives there.   :'(

I'm from a Chicago suburb so it's kinda like some days everyone says it, and some days they don't.  It depends on like which side of the lunchroom you sit at in my school.

Except I don't know which side because I skip lunch to practice

You begin to get a little tired after a while.  Like mentally and physically it's pretty exhausting.

In speaking of wrists, there's this girl at my school who got a tattoo on her wrist without her mothers permission.  Her mom found out on mothers day, and now she's getting it removed.  I feel sooooooooooo bad for her, she said that she was screaming while they were shooting her wrist with lasers.

Awe that sucks. it's gonna look worse than her tattoo. The removal used to leave a terrible scar. Like the tattoo but a scar shaped like the tattoo.
