Take Five
on: December 22, 2012, 05:52:03 PM
I cannot play the last 4 bars of the first page of this arrangement of Dave Brubeck's "Take Five":

without hurting myself (I have relatively small hands, if it means anything here). Any advice? If it's not too much trouble(lol) a video lesson would be nice ;D!

Is it the left hand that is causing problems?  Don't try to play those little swings from a single hand position.  Let it be a little jump.  If the suggested fingerings stretch your hand too much, then ditch them and use what works.

I modified the work a little bit(syncopation is to be applied wherever the player feels like). I can play it but the left hand hurts after a few repetitions. Any suggestions? I mean should I even go on with it, assuming it's too strenuous or should I make some other arrangement? Or just play the arrangement in the previous link(I gotta say my little modification sounds a little better to me)? Can't decide really.
