What are you composing right now?
on: December 26, 2012, 11:54:18 PM
See the title. I'm working on several things:

A rondo on the theme of the Coventry Carol
Theme and variations (well, not quite, it's like Chaminade's Thème Varié) in C minor
A short piece I am provisionally calling Pen on Paper

EDIT: I need to add this piece I just started, which is a short toccata in the style of Ravel. It is in E minor.

Oh, and Pen and Paper is in Bb Phrygian  :)

Nothing. I haven't written anything out for years. Improvisation is just about everything these days, although I have heaps of scores from earlier decades. I like Chaminade very much. Peter Jacobs' three CDs of her are excellent. His set of Frank Bridge is also wonderful. Look forward to hearing your pieces.

Thanks. The Theme and Variations I'm working on is obviously influenced by Chaminade, but my style is more dissonant than hers, so you can tell that she isn't my only influence. I have now retitled Pen and Paper, it is now called Ink. I thought the name fit better with the piece's dark tone.

I have just recently returned from a long hiatus of attempting to compose anything. But now I've started improvising around on the piano, hoping to come up with some ideas. My intention is to compose an ensemble, possibly for piano and two string instruments. My aim is to write it in a somewhat romantic era style but also combine some Baroque elements in it.

i'm writing a symphony
it's a bit bad probably because i'm a bit too young, my family is good at absolutely NOTHING and i've only known music for a little over 1 year, but it's been a while since i tried something crazy(last time it was trying to understand calculus without learning how to graph, it failed, so i tried again after learning how to graph, but now i can't do it anymore because my mom took away my phone with the documents on it >:( ).
