Video Blog: Mikrokosmos
on: December 31, 2012, 05:05:35 AM
Thought I'd share... starting a video blog going through all of the Mikrokosmos starting at #11. I went through 1-10 and didn't film them, but I can if requested. I don't have a teacher, but I'm studying vocal performance/opera studies at university. I just thought it would be interesting to try and make it through. Opinions/criticisms/observations all welcome and wanted! If there's interest, I'll keep this thread going with videos, and if not, I'll just let it die out.

Cool project!

These get progressively harder as I understand it. I've never actually played any of them (have them on order, so that will change soon).  Will look forward to seeing your progress.

Yeah, that's what I've heard too. Thought it would be a fun project, and good for me.

right on! keep posting, oooh do go back revisit and post those first ones too, i think having a complete set will be  agreat resources for others and going back to those you did will also benefit you as well. you might even surprise yourself with how differently and perhaps better you play them having had more time with the later ones too

I'm thinking about adding them at the end of the first book! Just to round it all out. It'll be a good refresher, too, since the material seems to get fairly tricky in the 2nd book.

So far, it's been an interesting aural experience. The idea seems that you really don't get immersed in a traditional harmonic language, but really one that is unique to Bartok and perhaps other 20th century folk-influenced music. I'm enjoying it, because I already spend the vast majority of my time studying "steak and potatoes" music in school, but I could see how it would definitely need to be supplemented with either music more traditional, or keyboard harmony training in a more traditional style if used with a very beginning musician.

Fixed links.  For the record, if you're logged in you need to take the "s" out of the "https://" in the URL, otherwise PS collapses in bewilderment.

A big vocal recital in my hometown and then a trip to Vegas, hence the lack of posting the past few days. Back on track.

Two more

Thanks for the kind words! I'm a beginner as well, so that makes two of us :P

I'm learning 25 right now. It's quite tricky; It's far tricker than the rest, in my opinion.

Yes difficult indeed but very beautiful. My teacher told me yesterday to work on the rests which are according to her even more important then the notes.
Good luck !
