1. I came across an ad on CraigsList for a used upright piano. The owner claims it is an Steinway upright but I have some doubts. The original vanish has been removed so there are no identifiers on the front of the piano.

2. Under the hood there is a branding that reads "WORKMANSHIP & MATERIAL FULLY WARRANTED BY THE MANUFACTURES OF THE S.P. CO N.Y. FOR JAMES KEEFE SAN FRANCISCO CAL."

3. The serial #26262

4. Here are some pictures of the upright

5. If some one could tell me the brand and the year I would be forever great full!
Sincerely!

The Steinways I have seen had "steinway" in the plate casting.  close but no cigar.  Uprights here are going for <$50, except a genuine predepression Steinway upright was bought for $300 by a dealer.

A Steinway it's not.  As Indianajo says, Steinways always have the company name in the casting.  However, what it is I couldn't tell you!

There is no name casted into the plate because this instrument is a ¾ plate that ends at the black line in photo 2 and 3. It is the pin block stacked on top with the serial number.

The Gothic block lettering looks recent and the words are crooked….kinda funny actually…..

There will be other idenfying features of a Steinway upright. Call your favorite local techncian today and book an inspection.
