HELP! Need advice regarding the fingering of fast ascending 6ths
on: January 06, 2013, 07:32:46 PM
There is a passage in the Zelda main theme that has really fast ascending 6ths. Here is what it looks like:
https://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtdFPE.asp?ppn=MN0109467&mnuid%3D0T84CSK8KZL8NRGKSWR7P8QSFW9P9M881STDBM88
(the 5th measure).
Can anyone tell me what fingering to use to get that up to speed?
Someone told me to use this:
334545
111111
But at the same time, someone else said this:
445435
112111
I was thinking the second one since it requires less thumb hopping, but at the same time the first one makes more sense theoretically.
Can anyone help me out?

I would pick the first one because it allows you an easier legato on the superior voice.
Another option can be:
445345
112111
But whichever you pick, use the wrist, that's the trick with the sixths.

Thank you! And yes, I agree about the legato part. The hardest part for me is getting my thumb to move that fast since it's hitting all the lower notes. But I think if I play it legato real well, that even if I don't play the sixths as fast as they should be played, the fact that it's legato will make it sound more "smooth" and give it that effect to make it sound faster.
And I kind of understand how it's all in the wrists, but could you explain further, what strategy or drill should I use to make my thumb move from key to key faster across the lower notes in order to keep up with the upper notes. My thumb is what's slowing everything down
, I will choose the 1st way btw.
Thanks for the help.
