latin/spanish music suggestions
on: January 22, 2013, 06:07:41 PM
Hello everyone,

I was wondering if you could give me suggestions for some popular and awesome latin/spanish composers.  Perhaps, and Albeniz, Ginastera, or Lecouna.

Any help is appreciated!
Thank you

From Manuel de Falla, one of his popular piano works:

A not so popular work by him, a concerto for ensemble with harpsichord:

And Noches en los Jardines de Espaņa, practically a piano concerto:
1st mov:    (you can find the rest in related videos)

Plus popular orchestral works like Three Horned Hat, and lots of transcriptions of various songs by him, mmm 4 Spanish pieces for piano solo, etc.

Another popular one:
(there's a piano transcription of this too)

One of the few works I like from the guitar repertoire:
(although, I'm not familiar with guitar interpreters nor a good version of this piece, but I know some of guitar's repertoire because half of the students in my school are guitarists... this version seems quite good though)

From Cuban composer Leo Brouwer:
(Although I find it a bit cliched at times, specially those mayor 7ths that generate in 0:55 - 0:56 and then reappear in 1:21, I know, I sound pretentious but that's what I think  :-\, but I like the general idea of the work, if you pay attention you'll notice it's just the cell/motif from 0:20 - 0:23 what generates the whole movement :P)
Movement I:

From Villa Lobos, played by one of the best living Mexican guitar players:
