Grade 10 RCM exam/repetoire?
on: January 31, 2013, 04:27:37 PM
Hey guys,
So I'm 15 years old, started piano 7 and a half years ago. Through the younger grades I was very successful, winning competitions and receiving 90+% on exams. Then, last year in grade 9 piano I lost my focus, barely practiced and got a 77, I then quit thinking I would never play again.
Over the past couple months I have found a renewed drive, I went back to my teacher and she agreed to begin again. My goal is to take my grade 10 practical exam in june 2014, a year and a half from now and score over 85%. Do you think this is possible?? I am willing to work hard but my schedule only allows me to practice about 2 hours a day.
Additionally, I'm wondering what kind of repertoire you suggest, I'm meeting my teacher in a few days but just wanted to get a few ideas to explore.
Thanks so much!

Yes you can do it if you are motivated and have a helpful teacher. I helped my adult student who's over 70 years old pass his grade 10 exam!!
The repertoire really depends on what you like and what you can successfully play. Maybe you should listen to some of the pieces and see what you like. You can also try some of them out a little bit to see if you'll be able to handle them. And of course, ask your teacher!!
