Finale Notepad - multiple treble clefs?
on: October 23, 2004, 11:05:42 PM
Ok, so I caved.. my handwriting is atrocious and it's becoming a huge waste of time for me to try to write out the 3 voices of the Sinfonia #9 with a pencil, keeping everything lined up vertically and legible enough to be useful.. So I downloaded Finale Notepad (I'm sure if this works out, which I think it will, I'll buy an upgrade) - but I can only seem to create a sheet with one treble and one bass cleff.. Anybody here use Finale and know how I can create a sheet with 2 treble and 1 bass cleff for each "line" so I can seperate these 3 voices? Or is that only a  feature of a "pay" version?

Thanks :)

I think you have to pay for it. I haven't gotten it to work in the free version.

BTW, you should have a look at NoteWorthy Composer. I find it is a better piece of software than Finale.

I have only played with Finale Notepad a little.  It seems to be easier to put multiple notes on one staff than in Noteworthy.

I usually use Noteworthy, because most of the time I'm typing four part hymns on short notice and don't have time to ge through the Finale learning curve.  But nothing I can figure out makes the NWC printout look decent.  (I usually don't need printouts, fortunately.)

In Noteworthy, you can go to Staff/Add and have any number of staffs.  I start with quartet for four, and put one line on each.  But I add a fifth staff and put the tempo there, makes it easier to edit.  I did buy the full Noteworthy version, it was $30 or so and worth it.  I'm assuming the free download has most of the features except for the limited number of saves.  Which you can get around if you have to.

NWC has default templates, like I said I always use quartet, then change sound from strings to organ.  It may have trio, I'd have to look, but if not just fill three of the four staves.

Yup, I just checked out Noteworthy Composer.. Finale looks nicer, but I found entering notes easier with Noteworthy.. kinda meaningless keystrokes to change note values, accidentals etc.. but I quickly got the hang of it.. and it's only $39, can't beat that!
