Thumb cracking
on: February 15, 2013, 01:55:26 AM
my left hand thumb seems to crack when playing octaves or awkward chords, it doesn't happen all the time but its there. Started studying chopins op 48 no 1 nocturne today, and when playing  pianissimo octaves i can hear it crack sometimes, its the weirdest thing. I have practiced with poor technique in the past and I'm assuming its from that, I'm doing my best to be aware of my capabilities and common sense when practicing now. The cracking is painless and doesn't seem to affect my technique. any ideas on why or similar stories ?

I spend 0-14 hours a week on piano. I reach an octave fine, almost +1 comfortably.

My right hand thumb joint cracks occasionally as well. I have loose joints, and this affects my other joints as well and is not restricted to playing. So it is not necessarily from poor technique. To avoid it I need to be careful of certain movements and streches. Sometimes it may be from a muscle strain somewhere.
