Cubase VST – My virtual “assistant”
on: October 25, 2004, 01:14:02 PM
I have used Cubase a number of times to help me learn a piece (especially “tricky” parts) and I have found it an invaluable tool (More so than a metronome!). A recent example was when I was trying to learn the trill in a grade 1 exam piece. Although I listened to the CD over an over I just couldn’t play it. I entered the notes from that bar into Cubase and cycled it over and over at a much slower tempo (Something you can’t do with a CD) and played along. I slowly increased the tempo until I had it perfected.

It's a suggestive term involving Google.

It's apparently some musical program.

Yes it is a music program, however it's not the full Steinberg version which costs around £300. I bought the 'light' version which is actually called 'Cubasis' (SORRY). It is only around £50 and is sold under the 'Pinnacle systems' company (I think owned by Steinberg)

I use Midisoft Studio, it puts midi files into musical notation (and you can find midi files of most classical repertoire at www.classicalarchives.com).

It helped me a lot with a problem of crossed rhythms. For that kind of things I found it invaluable (you can put it at a comfortable tempo and just play the notes at time).

Also I have put it to play the violin part of a beautiful sonata from Bach, and I play the piano part. It is fun.

What a BRILLIANT site! I just downloaded 'Les Baricades Mysterieuses' and now have the score in seperate parts! I may even be able to learn it now.

(Cubasis also does midi to score)
