Dear Pianists,

Last week, I was eating  and playing some piano at a friend of mine. He played me a piece supposably by John W. Schaum, an American pianist, composer, and educator. Honestly, I never heard of him before. He rewrote pieces for educational purposes. One of his pieces was 'Gypsy Violins', which I loved! The melody line seemed vaguely familiar, but I do not know which classical piece has been rewritten. Searching Google, Pianostreet and ISMLP did turn out much. The book it is in in called the 'Brown book by John W. Schaum'. It is however an prehostoric book played by t-rexes and not available anymore in my area.

So my question for you, on which classical piece is 'Gypsy Violins' based? A picture is included below.

Your googling skills need a bit of a workout:

It would appear to be in a particular style rather than based on a specific other work.

Of course I have used google and found that link. But what I'm saying is, I think this piece is not written by himself, as most of his works are derived from composers for educational purposes. For example, his piece "With love in my heart" is based on Chopin op. 10 no. 3.
