So Glad to Have Such a Good Piano Teacher!
on: April 12, 2013, 04:01:59 PM
I feel so lucky that I have such a brilliant teacher!
I found him by chance! A friend of my parents knew him (the teacher) and, when he (the friend) accidentally heared that I wanted to start learning playing the piano, he recommended him to me.
Since then he has been my piano teacher (I mean about 10 years!).
My teacher loooooves music and especially the piano of course. His passion really inspires me! For example, each time we have a lesson, the first thing he has to do is to play something (one of his favourite pieces, or something he played before our lesson, or... or... or...), or tell me something that he recently learned, read, heared, found,... or a new thought or idea about a piece. He's the only pianist, that has teached me, who has so many things to tell me about piano and music generally. He really cares about my improvement and he's also a very good and talented pianist, who has studied with great musicians.
Finally, for the reasons I mentioned above, I have to say that for me his opinion always matters more than others'. And I certainly owe him a lot.
I feel so lucky that I have such a brilliant person, pianist, teacher, as I strongly believe that it has played a major role in my progress! And I just wanted to share my enthusiasm with you!

Is there anyone else that has any similar experience?  ;D

Somewhat, until my piano teacher fired me as her student.

Absolutely.  For some of us -- a fortunate few, perhaps -- we will encounter sometime in our careers a really great person who is also a great teacher.  Mine was in college, half a century ago, but I've never forgotten her.  I never played as well as she thought I could (she was right, because I just didn't have whatever it takes to practice at that level) but her lessons have stuck.

Be happy!

That is my experience presently.  It makes all the difference in the world.

Yes, a good teacher definitely makes a big difference. I envy people who is lucky enough to start from the very beginning with a nice one. I started with pretty bad teachers but later I looked for good ones and found them and I'm really thankful for it.

Congrats, evitaevita! Enjoy your classes!

This reminds me so much of my new piano teacher! I had been studying with one teacher for about 7 years and he was great for the first few years but as I had gotten older, he started to frustrate me more and more, only letting me stick with a piece for a week or two at a time before switching to a new one (without me finishing it!   :-\ ) and, as I later found out, letting me play with zero technique (and I REALLY do mean zero), so I ended up being a great sight reader but not doing well with anything else. At the start of this year, I finally left and found a new teacher. This was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. She has proved to be extremely helpful with everything this year and I actually feel like I'm getting somewhere now. (She even managed to make basically re-learning how to play fun!) Not only that but she's also very talented, interesting, and must be one of the sweetest people I know. I wish that everyone had the chance to work with a teacher like this!
