Hi everyone, I will be a high school junior next year and I would like to know if I am moving in the right direction. So here's my rep for this year:Competition pieces that I completed in February:Classical division: Polonaise Op. 53-ChopinChampionship division: Nocturne Op. 33-BarberJazz division: Fingerbuster-Jelly Roll MortonPop division: Dream Within a Dream-Hans Zimmer (I know lol, they have pretty strict guidelines for this category)The pieces that I've added and am working on for Guild Auditions in later May (10 memorized movements of work required):Etude Op. 25, No. 5-ChopinSonata K. 310 (1st mvt.)-MozartLiebestraum No. 3-Liszt(Those 3 I worked a little on last summer)Plus:Prelude Op. 23, No. 5-RachmaninoffSonata K. 492-ScarlattiRhapsody Op. 79, No. 2-Brahms(Those 3 I started middle of February)I've played some other major works in the past as well (Ballade Op. 23, Moonlight Sonata full, Clair de Lune, Revolutionary Etude, a sinfonia, etc.)So here's what I'm thinking about for next year:Competition Pieces:Classical division: Sonata Op. 57-BeethovenChampionship division: Jeux D'eau-RavelJazz division: Viper's Drag-Fats WallerPop division: Lord of the Rings Virtuosic Piano Solo-Jarrod RadnichThen to add on for Guild Auditions:Etude Op. 25, No. 11-ChopinEtude Op. 8, No. 12-ScriabinUn Sospiro-LisztPrelude and Fugue in C# Major (book 1)-BachI know that these pieces may be considered "overplayed" but these are the songs I love.I also know that you can't determine what good pieces would be just from past rep. I just want to be sure that that is a step up from what I'm doing this year. Would that also be a competitive rep for a high school junior for scholarships? Btw I also always strive for perfection in the pieces I play but I have other interests as well.
You are fabulous, with this repertoire at your age.Horowitz, by about age 18, left Russia, and went on his own concertizing. He also knew two concerti: the 1st Tschychowski and the 3rd Rachmaninoff.
He played the Rach 3 at age 18?!
