The restricted but insistent subset of notes coupled with variable syncopated rhythm lend this piece a curious, melancholic charm. Twelve minutes is a long time for what is essentially one almost repeated cell. I might have stuck in a contrasting section and more left hand work generally but I still like it as it is.
