How to play the consecutive octaves here
on: April 24, 2013, 10:29:22 AM
Hi everyone!
I just feel a little difficult with playing the consecutive octaves here in this little section (Enclosure is the section of Schumann Humoreske). I've practiced with one weight covers four-notes group and practiced only the thumb or the fingers which play the upper notes of the octave. But I still feel tired with my muscle. I played the Liszt la campanella and Hungairan Rhapsody no.6 before and did not have such an obviously feeling like this. Maybe some of the octaves in lizst feature in kind of repeating notes.. And here in the Schumann Humoreske, the octaves move fast to different notes. How can I play fast but do not feel wrist and arm tired here? Thank you very much!!

Have you tried changing fingerings?
Like not always using 1 5, but 1 4, and sometimes 1 3.
If your hands are large enough.

@Rachmaninoff_forever,
Yes, I use 1 4 and 1 5. 1 3 is hard to cover. Thank you~

Try doing them in small groups first, lifting the hand after each octave keeping the hand relaxed and wrist loose, also do some scales in octaves with both hands, and arpeggios. If you want a real challenge do and arpeggio with octaves where it would be like this on say a g minor chord: LH g rh b (third above the g) then left hand on the d etc
Or chromatic with the thumbs doing the only try chromatacism, those are all fun!
