Romantic compositions.
on: April 24, 2013, 04:53:29 PM
Hi,

I would like some help on romantic/love compositions, I don't mind the difficulty, I've thought about Liebestraum - Liszt and Debussy - Arabesque, maybe I'm wrong, maybe those 2 aren't romantic/love compositions, pls correct me.. soooo...... If anyone has some opinions on this, please do say something. thanks :))))))

Slavonic Dance Op.72 No.2 by Dvorak, not a love composition, but sounds romantic :D I'm not sure if this is what you want but one of my favorite pieces.

This is a wonderful piece, a transcription by Liszt of one of Schumann's most lovely songs:

Makes a great impression, and not quite as hard as it sounds - some really interesting polyrhythms. Recommend you get a translation of the words if you don't speak German.

This is impressionism, but I think it sounds more romantic.

The poem behind this piece is even romantic!

I felt in love with that Schumann - Widmung, I have just listened at Lang Lang's performance of the piece, so beautiful and such wonderful culmination... Thanks a lot.

The Liszt is definitely overplayed! The Arabesque no. 1 is absolutely gorgeous, easier to learn than the Liszt, and less common too. Good luck!

1:30, Op. 15 No. 8

"...Bortkiewicz's lifelong friend, Hugo van Dalen, the Dutch pianist and composer (1888-1967) told him that it was through his playing of the Etude Op. 15, No. 8 that he had met his wife. She liked the piece so much that she came up to van Dalen to ask the composer's name. This acquaintance led to their marriage, as a result of which Bortkiewicz unofficially named this etude the Verlobungsetude or Betrothal etude...."
So it is said....
