hands, arms, veins! gross??
on: May 03, 2013, 05:48:54 AM
I know guys have veiny hands. But what about girls? Any girls on here that like their hands? Any that don't? I think mine are gross. There is a gigantic vein monster spread across the top of my left forearm, and it bulges out every time I get busy playing. Also, every other vein is very narrow, so they just get dark and nastly looking! Does anyone know if this is a condition? I don't have veins anywhere else on my arms that are as prevalent. It's scaring me!

Do you like the phisique if your hands?

One of the consequences of only playing by reading is that I never get to see mine in action on the keyboard. I'm happy with the delusion that they are transformed into a vision of loveliness.

You could always get more tatts.  ;D

My hand are really not pretty...I have big veins and all the tendons and joints are clearly visible. There's no softness in my hands at all. My fingers are like spider legs and the joints are big with a lot of extra loose skin. My fingertips are not pretty either and the 3rd and thumbs are  crooked. But I cannot say that I dislike my hands, I think they suit my personality :)
I would just like them to be more suitable for playing...

Don't worry, big veins may look scary but are not dangerous, at least if they don't appear suddenly.

EDIT:
There's one pretty handy feature in my hands...I can see my pulse on my wrists  ;D

Praising something in your own looks is considered bad manners, so when people finally admit they have a feature that they DO like, they always seem to feel obliged to add some self-critizism as well.

Now, I will try not to feel like that. Simply: I am terribly proud of my hands. I love them. They are the most beautiful hands I know. (The most familiar too ... to me ...  ::)  ) I never use rings, not even a wedding ring, because I thing they are ugly and uncomfortable, and I cannot have long nails because I play the piano, I don't even use nail polish because I think nothing is worse than nail polish beginning to peel off (yuk!)  but I am insanely proud of my hands nevertheless ...

Unfortunately I have troubles with them in these days. All this piano practicing has given me trouble. My muscles and my tendons ache. Not so that I scream, but I guess I have to rest from piano playing today. Again. :(

When I first came back to piano about a year ago now I had trouble with my hands feeling stiff and swollen. They were not swollen particularly but they would get stiff. That seems to have subsided now. Years ago when I practiced much more and much more complicated music I don't recall that happening but I was years at the piano getting to that level. Being years away this time, i suddenly thought i could put in 3 hours practice and even though it was less complicated music I was using muscles I have not used in a long time. So be it, I'm happy now !

For a guy, in the past my hands were not so bad looking. Now older (63), taking several kinds of meds from blood pressure to water retention reduction to what ever else, I swear the results all went to my hands. Pretty vein y now, pretty boney now, old age blotches, one cancer growth removed from one and a touch of arthritis setting in , they appear a bit messier than before. Oh well, it's what I have and all things considered, not so bad at that !
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

The one thing that pisses me off is that me hands look different than the rest of my body! They are going to age very fast. This is what they look like hours after piano study, relaxed. As you can see, the vein on my forearm is very large...maybe even a centimeter diameter!

I would be very scared for anyone to touch that vein!  :-[
