What to learn after Chopin's 3rd Ballade?
on: May 05, 2013, 07:50:07 AM
I'm making steady progress with this piece.  I think I'll study it for a couple more months before starting to learn a new 7 to 10 minute piece in the summer. Here are some ideas:

1. Chopin's Ballade No 1
2. Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No 2
3. Liszt's Tarantella
4. Ravel's Alborado del gracioso

Is the First Ballade a big jump from the Third one both in terms of physical and musical demands? As for the Liszt, I think neither piece is musically profound although the technique required does look daunting?

Thanks for your suggestion.
Beethoven - Sonata in C sharp minor, Op 27 No 12
Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu, Nocturn in C sharp minor, Op post
Brahms - Op 118, Nos 2 & 3

Personally, I often find technique overrated as the musical demands are more taxing. Technique cam 90% of the time be worked out with practice in a healthy manner (assuming you've reached the technical capabilities of your current repertoire).

I've played Ballade 3, Alborada, and Ballade 1 in that order but not consecutively. Admittedly, alborada took a bit of work to get comfortable with the repeated notes, but the 1st ballade I dont think was a huge jump technically from the 3rd ballade
Ravel Jeux D'eau
Brahms 118/2
Liszt Concerto 1
Rachmaninoff/Kreisler Liebesleid
