Concerto suggestions?
on: May 05, 2013, 11:55:31 PM
Hello everyone!
I'm relatively new here. Do you think you could give me any suggestions for concertos? I'm not really the strongest baroque pianist, so I'd prefer to not get a surplus of baroque suggestions. I enjoy baroque music to an extent, but I excel with Romantic and contemporary music.
Thank you!
Currently working on:
Chopin Etude Op 25 No 12
Rachmaninov Preludes Op 32 No 10 & 12
Bach Partita No. 2 Sinfonia
Saint-Saens Concerto No. 2 in G Minor

Liszt concertos would be a great choice. Rach 1 or Paganini Variations are good. Brahms 1 is better to start with than 2. Either of the Chopins are good. Grieg, Schumann. The best thing to do would just be to listen to a bunch of different concertos and decide what you like the most. If you want more specific recommendations be more specific about what you like and want to work on --what are your strong suits and points you would like to improve on or deepen your repertoire in?

Seeing your current repertoire, you should be ready for most pieces-Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky may be a little too big for you. Other than the Rach and Tchaik, go for any one you choose!
