I'd play Chopin's E Major Scherzo instead of the second Sonata, unless they insist on a larger scale work. Try a Liszt Transcendental Etude, either #2 in A Minor of Faux Follets. Or maybe a Rachmaninoff Etude-Tableau. E-Flat minor from Op. 39 was always one of my favorites to play, or C# Minor from Opus 33.

Faux Follets

Is that when you fake it?  ;D

@OP - Any but the first three of the TEs, or any of the Paganini etudes.  For a slow Chopin piece, the March Funebre if you have time is nice, or any of the nocturnes - pick one you like.

Instead of Liszt, an etude of Debussy, Ligeti or Kapustin to expand the width of your programme?

Oh my god! Petrushka? Must be talented, I bow my hat to you :) Demonstration of expertise in a variety of skills is what's looked for, so you can't go wrong with anything Liszt--as long as it's not the same in technique and musicality as your other already-decided pieces.

But you need something more 20th century and atonal than Petrushka. May I suggest something Scriabin? His etudes are wonderful, specifically the later ones. you can't go wrong with debussy etudes as well; it's a two in one package, display your impressionistic skills with virtuosity.

Petrushka is impressive. Make sure you perform it rather than recite it.

And its plenty modern enough. If the website says 20th century then heck you could even do iberia.

Don't bother with attempting to impress the judges with technique. Technique is required. The judges will be expecting a hell of a lot more than technique.

That said, nice program, apart from the black key which i hate. But thats just me. Chopin might be unnecessarily large but if you can do it go ahead. Don't expect extra sympathy for more difficult pieces. If anything you'll be judged more critically. Which is a plus if you can pull it off. And a huge negative if you don't.

Scherzo is plenty big fyi.
Ravel Jeux D'eau
Brahms 118/2
Liszt Concerto 1
Rachmaninoff/Kreisler Liebesleid

Thank you for your opinions! I have chosen La Campanella for my other étude :)
