on: May 12, 2013, 08:17:49 PM
Here's an attempt I made to record this piece. I'm supposed to be performing it in about one week, so I need some critiquing  :-X Thanks for listening!

Nicely done.

I'd slow it down just a tiny bit, and use a bit more rubato. The dynamic range seems a little tight, though that may be the recording (or my playback).  Those deep bass notes in the recap kinda stick out without purpose, so maybe try and integrate them better into your sound image.

All minor criticisms/suggestions, btw - it's a very nice performance.

Thanks! When I first started learning this piece I actually took it pretty slow. Since then I seem to have sped it up quite a bit, though I do like it slower. You're right about the dynamic contrast, I'd love to blame the recording device (it may have had some effect) but it is something I need to work on more. Especially in the last section, which is pretty much marked pianissimo all the way through. Thanks for the tip about the recap, I find that section to be one of the hardest things to interpret in this piece.

I think the tempo is appropriate and as far as more rubato and making the melody sing more, I would keep the bass notes just a tiny bit quieter :) Other than that, great work! :)
