Hey, Paul Hogan just called and said he wants his review back!

Ladies and gentlemen:  the great, the renowned Paul Hogan.  The most famous Australian who ever lived.

That's right, people!  Yes, you heard it here first!  The most famous and the most accomplished Australian who ever lived, except for that guy who choked on his own vomit and that other guy who "accidentally" choked himself to death with a belt, some kind of pop singer or something, like am so sure.

I choked both of them, they owed me money and wasted it on guns and alcohol. Ah nothing beats feeling the life drain from their body and watching the film of death cover their eyes..... wait... don't quote me on that or I will choke you.

You're into that too?

That must be Australia's best sport.

Aside from cricket, but who has the patience for that?

Ladies and gentlemen:  the great, the renowned Paul Hogan.  The most famous Australian who ever lived.

Right after Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Cathy Freeman, Ian Thorpe, Ned Kelly, Julian Assange, Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem, Tim Minchin...

...and about 7,000 bloody others.

OK, fine.  Angus Young can stay. Malcolm Young can stay with Bon Scott.

And, yes, Paul Hogan is one of Australia's finest singers, along with Maggie "The Cat" Thatcher.  Those gilded pipes....what they couldn't do!

Melts the heart of any proud Australian, it does.

That's kind of so funny I forgot to laugh.  Where's my blowjob?

That was the deal!

You make with the funny and I get a little something on the side.

Fair is fair, sir.

Melts their eardrums maybe... actually, I don't think Paul Hogan ever sang as far as I know. He couldn't act either but I guess that didn't stop him.

He is and was a brilliant performer.  Right up there as a song-and-dance man with Jimmy Cagney and James Spader and James Carrey and that other guy, like John Candy and everything, like no duh!

Astonishing life and career.

On a more serious note, yes, indeed Malcolm Young was an absolutely essential rhythm guitarist in what the kids are calling the rock music or combo bands.

A bit overshadowed by his more flamboyant brother, but Malcolm Young had the right stuff, and for many years, if too few.

And, no, Maggie Thatcher never sang except when she was pretending Reagan was down her throat, AFAIK.

The language when you're strangled is a lovely dialect, especially the moments when the gasping starts. Moment of panic also add to the intonation. Generally need to say what you want in one tiny breath which makes the dialogue more laconic, like the Spartans.

Did you ever hear of a fruit called "Sissymary?"

Damned right he is!  Hard to play well, hard to memorize, and textual questions abound.

He wrote a lot of good sheet, though.

Nary a tear was shed for that PoS.

What???    ;D

OK.  Go down to the rope store and go Australian yourself.  ;D

Weren't people talking about Bach or Frankie Boyle or something important anyway?

Oh.  No, not really.  Well I find Bach difficult to play and to memorize, but even my feeble non-p_p mind has found a number of effective solutions or salves.

It can be done.  A few different techniques can be used...I like decomposing every part of a fugue into, say, SATB parts (or, obviously, add one if it's a five-part fugue....doesn't matter), and trying to "compose" each part in real time....and one can certainly write it out on staff paper if one desires...

For préludes and such?  No, I don't have a strategy for those....just sort of remember what one can and keep the basic harmony in there....I still have a hard time with the Em keyboard Partita of Bach....it's dfficult for me to not eff up somewhere in there in the arpeggiated prélude parts.

Improvisation can cover any number of sins at things like préludes of Bach....at the very least, one has the security of knowing that one can just play and have it sound good if one effs up and forgets something or another.

So, if one actually knows the piece and understands the melodic and harmonic schemata, one can easily continue.  Really is a kind of "ear learning," but despite me not having absolute pitch, I don't find it difficult....one learns how to adapt and how to compensate for all those times when "muscle memory" will fail.

Hey - I never said Bach was easy... never even alluded to it. It's got its own complexities and his 3, 4 (and sometimes 5) part fugues are evil. A real mastery of muscle memory.

I'm better at aural memory. I can imagine and hear all the notes in my head and then try and work out the notes from there... but with the very careful fingering needed for Bach - I would never say it's easy.

No such thing as muscle memory.  Well not reliable memory, anyway.  Haptic memory is a component of a complicated set of lived experiences (vécus), but only one small part of a vast sensory and contemplative apparatus.

Oh, I forgot that you are a gamer.

Well, game on gently into the night.

I'm only an enthusiast... not a hard core gamer. There are people who get up at 3am to go on a raid because their favourite game has just released a DLC just so they can level up fast...

Screw that - 3am is for sleeping.

Spoken like a true prodigy.
It certainly opens up new avenues.... or tunnels.

It's like a sucking wound that won't ever heal.

Highly recommended.

Legato octave arpeggios

Now this had me thinking....on the off chance this was a serious comment....why would anyone want to practice both hands, each holding an octave, arpeggios in legato, presumably without sustain pedal?

When would anyone need to use those?  I don't believe I've ever seen that in repertoire....maybe it's somewhere deep in Czerney or the Godowsky Chopin or something irrelevant, but probably not even there.

Yeah, sure, you can do it for short stretches, or apply the sustain pedal to do some XIXth C "bravura" effect, but I don't see the need to waste time on little tricks like that.

Hands separately, together forming an octave, sure....use those all the time....the Scherzo from Beethoven's Op. 27/1 is about as classic an example I can think of, where it comes off beautifully (if played well) but that's used all the time as a technique....however that's not how I'm understanding the initial concept as stated.

Double octaves is fun for a very loud effect, and it comes up in Brahms a bit, among others....but it's not something I'd practice except for a particular piece.

Can one do it?  Yeah, sure, if one wants to be loud and obnoxious.  And it can be effective in certain pieces....such as the Brahms Op. 118/6....but it's not really worth practicing IMHO...you just learn it for such-and-such a piece and that's it.  It's not really that difficult, but it's really an effect best used sparingly, at best.

Yeah, I wish.  If I'm lucky I'm asleep by 0300 local time.

Insomnia is a hell of a drug....and it means I can never plan to do anything prior to 1400 or so the next "morning" without going into heavy sleep debt.

Which makes me angry.  And people don't like it when I'm angry.  That's how people get shot!

And watch your language....there are women and children present, boy.
My name is Nellie, and I take pride in helping protect the children of my community through active leadership roles in my local church and in the Boy Scouts of America.  Bad word make me sad.

If you think the word Screw is a naughty word... what do you think of Wesley Willis and his lyrics...

Seems a bit hypocritical, don't you think???
