But I am last. Not necessarily now, but in time. And it is a case of the last shall be first.

Couldn't you get seriously more that $10.01 if you melted them down for the copper?

What's zinc going for these days?

https://www.livescience.com/32401-whats-a-penny-made-of.html
"The alloy remained 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc until 1982, when the composition was changed to 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper (copper-plated zinc)."

Unless you've got old pennies....

Oh.

https://www.infomine.com/investment/metal-prices/zinc/

About $0.92/pound for zinc.

https://www.parkpennies.com/penny/penny.htm
About 181 post-1982 pennies per pound.
= .005 per penny
x 1,001
= $5.09 rounding up.

Oops... And it's assuming these were 100% zinc which they're not... So...
5.09 - 2.5% of that to remove the copper percent....
= $4.96  rounding up again     Just for the zinc.

"The COMEX fell $0.0020 and closed at $3.0660 per pound."
Daily Copper Pricing Report 2014 - Trade Service
www.tradeservice.com/copper_pricing/
2.5% of 3.066
=

181 pennies....
If 100% cooper, each penny is ~$0.169
x 1001
= $16.96 rounded up, if all cooper  <-- That's the best they're worth, if they were 100% copper.
but it's only 2.5%
= .423

Means 1,0001 pennies are worth about $5.38, if those are all post-1982 pennies.

Hm....  *Bob considers this....*   "Hello, Bank?  Yes, I'd like withdraw everything in my savings and take out a loan for as much as I can.... And I'd like that all in pennies, dated between 1944 and 1982 only please.*

Guess who got a loan for $0.01?   ::) And then got charged interest and penalties on that?  Haha.   :P

I've used them as weights for a few things.

Otherwise it's the coin jar. Turn that into the bank every few years.

Change by itself is kind of a pain.  And the singles that accumulate in the wallet.

And the singles that accumulate in the wallet.

We haven't had one dollar notes since 1984. We have a coin (and a $2 version) so change is actually less a pain here.

Can't wait til they ditch the 5 cent coin and coinize the $5 note.

I think the US has $2 coins at one time. That sounds like royal pain.  Nobody wants to carry giant coins around here.  $1 (silver dollars) coins aren't even used.

And then some genius made $1 coins (forget which exactly) that were almost exactly the size of a quarter.   ::)   Susan B. Anthony or Sakajuwea $1 coins.  ::)

Nobody wants to carry giant coins around here.

They don't get bigger, they get a little thicker and change colour. $2 is smaller than 20 cents.

So, since I don't want to start a new thread, does anybody know a seven minute piece that is by an obscure composer and is about the same level of technical (and musical) difficulty of Chopin's 4th Ballade, or am I just wasting my time here?

Okay. It can not be an arrangement, it should have been written in the twentieth century, but is in the Romantic style, and it needs sound difficult and end with a bang! ;D

Hmm.. sorry.  You, or your ancestors were in Britain, or it's empire, in 1752? If so, that date will be still OK, otherwise it may not be. It is only arbitrary to within a few days.

I thought the Scots had been "dealing" with the English since the Battle of Dun Nechtain. Not always successfully.
