Where do you sign on a debit card?
on: May 19, 2013, 06:50:31 PM
I have a MasterCard, and apparently I have to sign the back of it.

I think I know where to sign, but my freaking card number is on top of it!

Do I sign over it, or what?

You can sign over it, but you should remember the number as it is often needed for online purchases.

Just sign to the left of it and write small.

You should have chosen a shorter name - Rachmaninoff_forever isn't designed to fit.  :P

That's actually coded into the main number.

considering our global position post GFC it might be fair to say that if anyone can be trusted with a credit card it is an Australian.

that said I dont personally know a whole lot of people i would be offering them to if I was wealthy enough to start extending offers of credit to the general public.

Don't feel bad if your card looks different. The reason is so waiters can notice you're a tourist, can tell you your card didn't go through, give the details to fraudsters, and ask you if you have another or some cash to settle the bill.

It's not a credit card it's a debit card.  Big difference...

It's hard to help out when you're not even willing to help yourself.

To prevent confusion, just post both sides of the card.  If you don't, someone's just going to get confused and ask for it later, and you'll have to post it anyway.

(I know.  Nils is going to step in.  I was thinking it sounded too legitimately helpful/serious.)  That said...

Blanking the numbers sounds like a lot of work. Just post a pic.

Or the even lazier option...

Post a pic of someone else's pic.

More seriously, why mess with a debit card?  I thought debit cards were from banks.... This said MasterCard....  But why not get an actual credit card and get the fraud protection that goes with that?  A debit card comes straight out of your bank account.  If someone gets the debit card info, there's not fraud protection.  At least that's what I've heard.  And with a credit card, if someone screws you over, you can have the credit card company stop payment on the transaction.

The Visa and Mastercard debit cards have the same fraud protection and other checks etc as a credit card. They're not the same as your banks eftpos cards.

Not all cards are equal. Check with the issuer. Special rules may apply.
