Chickering and son Grand # 114890 ????
on: October 30, 2004, 06:32:44 PM
Just got this piano two weeks ago. Home was sold neather party needed piano. Pianos measurements are 7 feet long and about 4 feet 10'' wide. I do have a piano
tech. from the Guild who will be looking it over. Expecting reconditioning ,and hoping
complete rebuilding is not needed. Did not notice any listing for Chickering and Son
on forum. This piano is circa 1910. Please let me know if it is worth the working on?

hey...Liszt had a Chickering and Sons piano near the end of his life.  He was very curious about American pianos and how they compared to European pianos.  There's a recording out with someone actually playing Liszt's Chickering and Sons grand in the Liszt museum.
Yeah, it might very well be worth working on.

Home was sold neather party needed piano.

Im sorry-I dont understand this comment....were you given the piano or did you pay anything for it?? Im confused...

This piano was no longer needed do to a home being sold. Neather party wanted to
pay or take the time to move the piano. I am related to to the Realtor who sold this home. I did not have to pay a fee for purchase. If I did not take this piano they
were to put out a want ad for a free grand piano. I never met lady who owned this piano. I did not even see it before accepting it . I went with my " gut feeling", and
am hoping it  is worth it. I used a piano moving service to have it relocated to my
house. It only set me back 342.00 dollars. Now it is set up in my front music room.
OH... somthing interesting was mentioned to me after setting up this very heavy
piano. This two people who moved the  piano said this was only thier second
Chickering they had ever moved ( est. 1979). The first Chickering that was moved was 9'. Difficult to move ? No problem . I have an appt. with a tech. from the P.T.G.
on Nov. 8th. Wish me luck!!! ( My piano is 7' long).
