(Chopin) Black Key Etude
on: May 31, 2013, 11:20:31 PM
Hey guys, I am currently learning this piece, and I will use it for my college auditions. I would like to have your feedback so that I can fix a few things.
Also, I am pretty aware of the mistakes that I made in here xD so please don't mention about them

Very entertaining and very good job
The only criticism that I would have is to try and keep the tempo as steady as you can and not waiver, but you did a fabulous job over all !!! Bravo!!

it doesnt need to be so fast. The ending is the primary indication of this; you are playing faster than you can control, so at the end you start having problems with the notes because that is a difficult passage. On top of that, things get lost and swallowed up, the triplet rhythm becomes indistinct. You lose clarity.
Every time you have the main passage it sounds the same. Do something different. Be creative and interesting.
Your octaves at the end: you jump too high from the key on each one of them. Try to keep lateral motion, keep your fingers close to the key, and do not waste so much energy and momentum jumping upwards off the key.

Good advice from le_poete_mourant!
I agree, it is much, much too fast for you at this point! Most of the difficult passages were garbled horribly! This etude must be played with absolutely perfect clarity on every note! You use too much pedal also! And you hit the octaves at the end with a very bouncy-wrist-not good sound quality!
You have the right ideas, musically...you just need more careful, slow practice without pedal to get there.
How many Chopin Etudes have you played before this?
