Any pieces you would recommend me to play?
on: June 03, 2013, 05:39:44 PM
I have a sadly small repertoire of classical and romantic music. The only pieces being Mozart's Rondo Alla turca and a simplfied version of a Chopin waltz (I also played Für Elise some years ago but it is now long forgotten).
The question I have is if you could recommend some pieces similar, or a bit harder in difficulty than Rondo Alla Turca?

What about some next waltz or easier nocturne by Chopin? The nocturne op.9 no.2 is good piece to start with.
Bach-Prelude and Fugue 2
Mozart-Sonata 545
Schubert-Klavierstucke D946 - 1, 2
Chopin-Etude 10/9, 25/12
Liszt-Un Sospiro
Rachmaninoff-Prelude 23/5, 3/2

La Fille Aux Cheveux De Lin (The Girl With The Flaxen Hair) by Debussy is very beautiful and relaxing and would contrast well with the Mozart Rondo Alla Turca as they are like chalk and cheese to each other really.

Villevilly's suggestion of Chopin's Op.9 No.2 is very good, alternatively you could do another of his Nocturnes, such as Op.50 No.1 in F Minor.

If you want something quite simple and short then I would go for Variation 18 of the Rachmaninov Paganini Variations.
Music is the greatest subsitute for words. In a life where we cannot succeed at work and we fail with women there is music which can tell anyone our words, words in which we want to scream but cannot!

I'm sure that if you can play Rondo alla Turca then you could play moonlight sonata first movement, or Satie's Gymnopedies. If you wanted a challenge then do Chopin Waltz op 64 no 2. Very fun piece but has a couple of techinical difficulties. Good luck with whatever you do!

Have you ever played the C major Mozart Sonata, K. 545? I think that is a good piece to start off with~
