Recommendations for full size weighted keyboard?
on: June 08, 2013, 11:21:12 PM
I recently got back into piano but have been playing on a 61-key unweighted keyboard, and it's really no use. I'm debating whether I should save for a used upright or an 88-key weighted keyboard. I live in an apartment and I'm worried about noise if I get an upright, so that's only a faint possibility. Are there good keyboards out there that won't affect my technique terribly? I can play at times in the college practice rooms to make sure I'm not picking up weird habits. I really know nothing about keyboards, so does anyone have any recommendations? The limit for my budget is around $500. Thanks!

There are quite a few to choose from but at your budget level I would only suggest two or three different ones. At the top of the list would be the Yamaha P105. Find that on sale someplace and it might come in slightly under budget.

This guy explains why I say that better than I can. Don't mind the pricing there tough, you can do better now that it's been out a while : https://azpianonews.blogspot.com/2012/07/review-yamaha-p105-digital-piano-very.html

Edit:
It seems the article now also suggests the Casio PX 150 as an option. I have not played this piano though.
Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.

Thanks so much! That looks great, I will look around to see where I can get it.
