What do you think of Kabalevsky and Khachaturian as piano composers?

Kabalevsky is OK.
Khachaturian is not a productive composer.

Khachaturian is not a productive composer.

Why so?

I think Khachaturian tapped into the folk elements of his native Armenia, producing a pretty distinctive, rhythmic sound. His Piano Concerto is particularly wonderful.

I played a few of Chatschaturjan's piano pieces 'Pictures of Childhood' as a child, and I did like them very much.

Yeah the Toccata is a great piece, probably his most well known piano piece although many of his lesser known works are equally as good.

Kabalevsky deserves to be much more appreciated in the west. All of his concertos are sublime, piano or otherwise.
