Mendelssohn Preludes & Fugues Op. 35?
on: June 12, 2013, 10:41:29 PM
Has anyone played the Felix Mendelssohn Preludes and Fugues (Op. 35)?
I'm particularly interested in Op. 35 No. 1 -- the Prelude & Fugue in e minor, and I was wondering how difficult it would be (I would probably just learn the prelude, but input on either would be MUCH appreciated!).
Here is the link:

Any help would be appreciated!

Played it (op.35 no 1). I enjoyed it more than expected. I find that playing the Prelude's melody with thumb only works well, some editions suggest otherwise. The prelude is quite easy to learn, the chord progressions are easy to figure out. The fugue is intense, half of it being a huge crescendo/accelerando, it's easy to get carried away too early. It's a blast!

RCM has that piece listed in its Associate Diploma syllabus. To put it in context what other pieces are you comfortable with?
