Difficulties of Liszt's Opera Transcriptions
on: June 13, 2013, 12:41:38 PM
Hey all,
could you guys tell me about the difficulties of the following transcriptions ?
Which one is the "easiest"/hardest ?
Does there even exist an easy one ?

Concert Arrangement Of Sarabande And Chaconne From Almira Composed by George Frideric Handel
Reminiscences Of Don Juan From Don Giovanni Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Reminiscences Of Robert Le Diable: Valse Infernale Composed by Giacomo Meyerbeer
Overture To William Tell Composed by Gioachino Rossini
Reminiscences Of Lucia Di Lammermoor Composed by Gaetano Donizetti
Concert Waltz On Two Themes From Lucia And Parisina Composed by Gaetano Donizetti
Grand Concert Fantasy From Sonnambula Composed by Vincenzo Bellini
Reminiscences Of Norma Composed by Vincenzo Bellini
Concert Paraphrase Of Rigoletto Composed by Giuseppe Verdi
Concert Paraphrase Of Ernani Composed by Giuseppe Verdi
Concert Paraphrase Of Waltz From Faust Composed by Charles Francois Gounod

Thanks

Not played all of them and none for some years, but the Lucia and Parisina is probably the easiest with the Gounod not far behind.

The Don Juan and Robert le Diable are horridly difficult and i failed at both.

Never bothered with the Sonnambula as the Thalberg is far superior.

Working from memory here without referring to the scores.

Adding on to Thalberg's list I would say that Rigoletto is easier than the William Tell.

Played the Rigoletto and 'tried' the ending of the William Tell which I found to be extremely difficult. Rigoletto generally lies well under the fingers and the ending is a piece of cake (apart from the repeated octaves - which is only a small section) and very impressive.

Generally I think William Tell requires more stamina too (from what I recall reading a long time ago)

Hey,
thanks for your replies.
I am a bit sad that Robert le diable is one of the hardest, its my favorite :/
Has someone experiences with  Sarabande And Chaconne From Almira ?
